In 1991, she won the silver medal at Varna International Ballet Competition. She was invited to audition for Paris Opera Ballet in that same year. She won the Eurovision Young Dancers Competition gold medal in 1993 and the Jackson International Ballet Competition gold medal in 1994. She joined the Royal Ballet in autumn 1994 after she had left the Paris Opera Ballet. In 2001, she was promoted to Principal Dancer.
In August 2006, she married Simon Keenlyside, a British baritone. The couple have two children: Owen and Iona, one son and one daughter. In 2018, Yanowsky was knighted by her husband, which gave Yanowsky the title Lady Keenlyside.
