Malaysian law professor Professor Dato’ Sri Zaleha binti Kamarudin was born 26 November 1961 in Raub, Pahang. Since 16 October 2017, she is the Judge of Sharia Court Of Appeal of Terengganu. She was also Rector of IIUM between 2 August 2011 and 31 July 2018.
On 2 August 2011, she was elected fifth Rector of IIUM, replacing Professor Dato’ Sri Dr. Syed Arabi Syed Abdullah Idid. After having her terms extended, her term expired on 31 juillet 2018. On the next day, she was replaced by Professor Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak.
From July 2009 to August 2011, she was seconded by the Malaysian Institute of Islamic Understanding. She became the Deputy General. Before being seconded, she was Dean of Centre for Postgraduate Studies from 2002 to 2005 and Faculty of Laws from 2006 to 2009.

Zaleha received her education at the University of Malaya in 1985, where she obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree with Honours. As the first batch of students to study Master in Comparative Laws at IIUM, she continued her studies and graduated in 1988. She continued her studies at that university, graduating in 1989 with an Advanced Diploma of Shariah Law Practice. She completed her doctorate in Comparative Laws in 1990 at University of London, and received her diploma in 1994.
After graduating from UM, Zaleha chambered and was admitted to the Malaysian Bar. At the end of the previous year, she joined IIUM as an assistant professor at Faculty of Laws. In 1988, she was promoted to full professor at IIUM. In 2000, she was promoted to associate professor and in 2006 to full professor.
She was also appointed as a Judge of Sharia Court of Appeal of Terengganu on 16 October 2017 and will serve the office for a term of three years.
