1971 was the year Jansone achieved her best results in open tournaments, where amateurs could compete against top professionals. She reached the 4th round of the Wimbledon Championships singles that year, losing to Nancy Richey in the 6th seed. That was also her only finals at an Open event. Morozova and she lost in the finals Kent Championships to Christine Janes & Nell Truman. Two years ago, her best performance in mixed doubles was also at Wimbledon Championships when she and Sergei Likhachev lost to Kazuko Sawamatsu and Koji Watanabe in the fourth round.
From 1969 to 1973, Zaiga Jansone teamed up with Olga Morozova to win the Soviet tennis championships for women’s doubles five consecutive times. She also played with Morozova in 1970’s singles finals, but lost 4-6 and 3-6. Between 1969 and 1973, Morozova (who was still playing under the family name Jansone Ivanova) and Zaiga won four European amateur championships and the 1973 Summer Universiade for women’s doubles.

Zaiga Jansone Ivanova, born (1951-01-24) 24 January 1951, is a former Soviet Latvian tennis player. She is also a tennis coach. She was a five time Soviet champion in women’s doubles, 1973 Summer Universiade champion for women’s singles (all with Olga Morozova) and a winner of the 1968 Olympics exhibition tennis event in mixed doubles (with Vladimir Korotkov).
The late 1960s and early 70s were Zaiga’s greatest years in tennis. She won a gold medal in 1968 at Mexico Olympics’ exhibition tennis event. In mixed doubles, she was partnered by Vladimir Korotkov. In the final match they beat the German-American team Peaches bartkowicz/Ingo Buding. She was also awarded a bronze medal for women’s doubles in that event, despite not winning any tie. Cecilia Rosado and her Mexican partner Cecilia Rosado didn’t have to play in a quarterfinals match and were instead given bronze medals as semifinalists.
Zaiga Jansone-Ivanova graduated in 1981 from the Latvian State University where she was studying journalism but her further career was in coaching. She first coached at the Jūrmala Sports School and in 1993 started her own Zaiga Jansone-Ivanova Tennis School in the same city.
