Portillos signed his first professional contract on 23 February 2015 with the Tampa Bay Rowdies, North American Soccer League. Portillos arrived in Tampa Bay to attend the Rowdies’ January 30-Feb.1 invite-only combine. He impressed Thomas Rongen’s coaching staff, and he was invited to join the team as a trialist. Portillos was a rowdie’s first starter against Malmo FF (Swedish Allsvenskan champions), and his first goal was the winning goal in a 1-0 win over C.D. Fatima during a preseason trip to Portugal.

Portillos sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon in his right Achilles tendon on April 15th, which ended his season. Portillos signed an extension to his contract with the Rowdies in order to remain on the team for 2016. He will be back on the roster on December 22, 2015.
