Yuri Kozurev was a Moscow native, born 1963. After graduating from the MSU Faculty of Journalism, he became a professional photographer. Kozyrev, a war photographer since 1994, has documented every major conflict in the ex-Soviet Union, including two Chechen conflicts. He was there in Afghanistan immediately after September 11, 2001 to document the fall of Taliban.
Kozyrev was a contract photographer at TIME Magazine. He lived in Baghdad between 2003-2009. Kozyrev has photographed the various sides of conflict in Iraq and traveled extensively. He has been traveling around the Arab unrests since 2011, including Egypt, Libya, Bahrain and Yemen.
