Crawford’s 2003 record was broken several times in 2004. After starting the season by participating in a few competitions within the 60-meter range, Crawford launched a throw of 71.62 metres in Havana in March. After dropping below 70 meters in the first competition, she returned with a 70.44m throw in Seville. She also threw 71.75 metres in Guadalajara and 71.40 in Padova. She threw 71.74 meters in the qualifying round, and advanced to the final. She reached new heights and threw a career-best of 73.16 meters. This was enough to win her the Olympic bronze medal. On the poodium, she was followed by Olga Kuzenkova from Russia, who had started with a 73.18 metre throw, and had been leading the competition throughout. Yipsi Moreno, pre-event favourite, had to settle for silver.
In 2007, she managed to reach an international final again, at the 2007 World Championships, but in the final round she finished twelfth and last following two throws in the 67-metre range. She then competed at the 2008 Olympic Games, but did not reach the final round and finishing with a 31st place.
Crawford broke the 70-metre barrier in 2002, when she reached 70.62 meters during a meet at Madrid in July. With 70.69 metres from Havana in mai, she improved slightly the following year. At the 2003 Pan American Games she won the silver medal behind her countryfellow Yipsi Moreno. She also competed in the 2003 World Championships. However, with a 64.59 throw during the qualifying round, she didn’t make it to the top twelve who advanced to the final.

Crawford was an early international debutant. She competed in the 1998 World Junior Championships at sixteen and finished ninth. In the qualifying round, she had thrown a season-best throw of 57.03 meters. She won the silver medal at World Youth Championships the next year, which was open to athletes 17 and under. To win the medal, she threw 57.56m. However, her personal best was 62.71m in Havana in March. In March 2000, she improved to 65.88 meters in Las Tunas a year later. Crawford won the bronze medal at the 2000 World Junior Championships in Santiago de Chile. This was the second championships to include the women’s throw of the hammer.
Crawford won the Pan American Junior Championships in her final season as a junior. Crawford won the Pan American Junior Championships in a new championship record of 63.2 m. Her season’s best was 65.67m from Santiago de Cuba in July. She won the 2001 Central American and Caribbean Championships in a new championship record of 58.68 meters.
In 2005, she only managed a season’s best of 69.30 metres, from Havana in March. She competed at the 2005 World Championships, but fell through in the qualification round. With only 63.79 metres she was far from securing a place in the final round. She did however win the silver medal at the 2005 Central American and Caribbean Championships, this time behind Trinidadian Candice Scott. The next year her season’s best throw was 71.92 metres. However, no major events were staged this year, except for the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games, where she won another silver medal behind Yipsi Moreno.
