Yoshinori Tateyama, also known as Jian Shan Yi Ji, Tateyama Yoshinori (born December 26, 1975), is a former Japanese professional baseball pitcher. He was a Major League Baseball (MLB), Texas Rangers player, and Nippon Professional Baseball(NPB) pitcher for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters as well as the Hanshin Tigers.
Tateyama was a sidearm pitcher and relied on a sinking fastball of 87-88 mph, along with a curveball of the low 70s. Two other pitches were also offered by Tateyama, a changeup (74 to 78 mph) as well as a screwball (64-61 mph), which were mostly used against left-handed batters. The “Vulcan” grip is used to throw the screwball. He was one of two relief pitchers who threw even one screwball during the 2012 MLB season.
After the retirement, he became Japan national baseball team pitching coach at the 2017 Asia Professional Baseball Championship, 2018 exhibition game against Australia, 2018 U-23 Baseball World Cup and 2018 MLB Japan All-Star Series.
On October 30, 2012, he became a free agent after the Rangers declined his 2013 option. Texas signed him again on December 20, 2012. He was released in March 2013. In June 2013, he was traded to New York Yankees.

Tateyama became a free agent for the Texas Rangers on November 30, 2010. After spending 2011 in the minor leagues he was called up by the Texas Rangers on May 23rd 2011. He made his major league debut with the Rangers on May 24, 2011. He struck out Carlos Quentin swinging in his first major league pitch.
Koji Uehara was Tateyama’s high school teammate. Tateyama was an ace pitcher, and Uehara an outfielder at that time. The Rangers signed Yu Darvish, Japan’s top starting pitcher, to a 5-year contract in the 2011-2012 offseason. Darvish and Tateyama were teammates for five seasons with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters.
In May 2014, the Yankees released Tateyama, and he returned to Japan to sign with the Hanshin Tigers on June 25, 2014. On November 1, 2014, he announced his retirement from professional baseball after making 8 appearances for the Tigers.
