Yosef Elron is one of the most popular and richest Judge who was born on September 20, 1955 in Haifa, Haifa District, Israel. Yosef Elron, Hebrew: yvosep Alrvon – born 20 September 1955 in Israel) is an Israeli judge currently serving as a Justice at the Supreme Court of Israel.

Elron was admitted to the Israel Bar Association’s 1985 in 1985. He opened a Haifa law office and worked as an attorney in both criminal and civil cases from 1985 to 1994. He was elected a judge to the Haifa Magistrate’s Court in 1994 and, in 2003, was made a judge to the Haifa District Court. He was still serving on the Haifa District Court and, in 2010, he was made a judge on Military Court of Appeals. This was part of his military reserve service. His rank is Lieutenant Colonel. He was elected Deputy President of Haifa District Court in 2012. He was elected President of the Haifa District Court in 2012, and he served this position for more than 4 years (July 2013, October 2017). As the Chair of the judicial committee, he was a District Court judge as well as the President of that Court. He heard many cases involving severe crimes.

Elron was appointed Supreme Court Justice in February 2017. Elron assumed this position on the 30th of October 2017.

Elron was the youngest of nine children to Ovadia Alfarih and Tzadika Alfarih. They were originally from Mosul, but Elron was born in Haifa. He graduated from the “Erev Hadash”, a high school in Haifa. From 1973 to 1977, he was a member of the Israel Defense Forces. He was discharged in 1977 as a Lieutenant and moved to the United Kingdom. From 1977 to 1980, he worked in various security positions and then studied law at the University of Buckingham. He graduated with an LLB in 1983 and returned to Israel where he worked in a law office and at the Haifa District Attorney’s Office. In 2001, he completed a Master’s Degree in National Security Administration at University of Haifa.

He was also a member on several committees that aimed to improve and optimize Israel’s judicial system. He chaired Judicial Measurable Objectives and was a member the Integration Committee of Israel Judicial System Strategic Plan. He was also a member the judicial selection board and, between 2014-2018, he was the chairman of the Examination Committee of the Israel Bar Association.

As a Supreme Court Justice, Supreme Court Chief Justice Esther Hayut requested Elron to chair a committee which was tasked to examine the interactions between judges and attorneys in legal proceedings that take place while conducting criminal investigations, before indicting a suspect. The Committee’s conclusions underscored, among other things, the importance of transparency in legal proceedings. These later contributed to the formulation of new Rules of Conduct, which came into force during September 2018, and wished to provide comprehensive guidelines as to the proper nature of the interactions between judges and attorneys.
