He also holds a second Doctor of Philosophy in Jewish History (PhD), from Brandeis University. He was a Rothschild Fellow in Hebrew University in Jerusalem, a Sensibar Visiting Prof at Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership, Chicago, a Visiting Scholar in Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales and a research fellow at The National Endowment for the Humanities in Poland.

Petrovsky-Shtern exhibited solo at several venues, including the French Institute in Kiev, Ukraine, the Ukrainian Institute of America spring 2015 in New York City, the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art February-March 2014, Chicago, and the Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership Chicago in November 2012.

“Although Petrovsky Shtern’s primary fields of interest include literature and history, from the Jewish Middle Ages through Hasidic folklore to Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s prose to the Ukrainian Renaissance of the 1920s,” said Vasyl Makhno, critic and poet.
