Barbet began the 2017–18 season as one of manager Dean Smith’s two first- choice centre backs, before dropping to the bench in October 2017. Despite being in and out of the team, he scored three goals in five appearances between September and November. With Rico Henry injured, Barbet was deployed as a left back for much of the season and finished the campaign with 37 appearances and three goals.
On 18 June 2019, Barbet joined Queens Park Rangers on a three-year deal.
After a successful trial, Barbet signed a two-year contract with Chamois Niortais’ Ligue 2 club. Barbet signed initially as a backup player. However, Barbet was allowed to play at Niort after Frederic Bong, the first-choice central defenseman, sustained a long-term injury. On 22 August 2014, Barbet made his first professional appearance. He was paired with Matthieu Sans as central defense. Barbet scored the first goal of his career in the 1-1 draw against Orleans in August 2014. He played 33 times and scored two goals in a mid-table season at Niort. He left the club on 25 Jun 2015.

Barbet was a youngster and represented AS Mouliets Olympique Saint-Pey, FC Vallee de Gamage. He then joined the youth team at Ligue 1 club Bordeaux, in July 2007. On 2 April 2011, he made his debut in the reserve team of the club, scoring a 3-0 victory against Saint-Alban. He then went on to make four more appearances in the final month of the season, which helped the team achieve promotion to the Championnat de France Amateur. Barbet was a regular in Bordeaux’s reserve team for the next three seasons. He made 70 appearances and scored 12 goals. Barbet finally received his maiden call to the first team squad for the Europa League group stage match against Maccabi Tel Aviv, but was unable to play in the 1-0 loss. Barbet was the only player in the first team, and he left the Stade Chaban-Delmas after the 2013-14 season.
After suffering an ankle injury during the 2016–17 pre-season, Barbet missed the first five weeks of the regular season. The form of centre backs Harlee Dean, John Egan, Andreas Bjelland and the emergence of teenage left back Tom Field relegated Barbet to a substitute role through the first half of the season, with occasional appearances at left back. After just three appearances in the opening months of 2017, Barbet broke into the team at the expense of centre back John Egan in mid-March and finished the season with 25 appearances.
