He stated that his customers “wanted something new in their lives” and had grown tired of eating cutlets with vodka. Prigozhin served meals to Vladimir Putin and Jacques Chirac at “New Island” in 2001. In 2002, Prigozhin hosted George W. Bush. Putin’s birthday was celebrated at New Island in 2003. In 2003, Prigozhin, who had left his business partners and started his own restaurants, had become a confidante to Putin, seemingly able to engage in illegal activities without fear of being prosecuted.

Yevgeny Viktorovich Prgozhin (Russian name: Evgenii Victorovich Privozhin; born on June 1, 1961) is an Russian businessman who has close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Prigozhin was referred to as “Putin’s chef” by the Associated Press because of his restaurants and catering companies that hosted dinners for Vladimir Putin and other foreign dignitaries. Prigozhin is the owner of “a network” of companies, including three that are accused of interfering in the 2016 United States election. Prigozhin has also been accused of trying to influence the 2018 U.S. Midterm elections. Prigozhin and his associates are facing economic sanctions and criminal prosecution in the United States.

Prigozhin received a suspended sentence on 29 November 1979 for stealing in Leningrad. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison for robbery and fraud, as well as involving teenage girls in prostitution. Prigozhin was in prison for nine years before he was freed.

Wagner has also been reported to be fighting in eastern Ukraine with pro-Russia forces.
