Yevgeniya Chirikova is one of the most popular and richest Human Rights Activist who was born on November 12, 1976 in Moscow, Russia. Yevgeniya Churikova (Russian: Evgeniia Serevna Cherikava – born 12 November 1976 in Moscow) was a Russian environmental activist. She is best known for her opposition to the construction of a motorway through Khimki Forest near Moscow. Her prominent role was also in the Russian protests of 2011-2012, which followed disputed Russian parliamentary elections. Chirikova is also credited with “stimulating national interest in political reform.” She currently resides in Estonia.
She was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2012 and a US$150,000 prize. She stated that she would use the money to set up a campaign group called Our Land (Russian nasha zemlia – Nasha Zemlya), to fight similar environmental campaigns as Khimki.
Foreign Policy named Yevgeniya Churikova as one of its Top 100 Global Thinkers in November 2012.
