Yelmer Evert Fransbuurman, a professional Dutch racing driver, was born 19 February 1987. He finished third in the Blancpain Endurance Series 2013 and second in FIA GT1 Championship 2012. He won victories in these categories and also won races in the Superleague Formula. He was also second in the 2013 24 Hours of Nurburgring.
Buurman was a temporary guest for Fortec in Formula Renault 3.5 Series 2007 when he replaced Richard Philippe, who had been injured for four races. He finished fifth and fourth in two races at the second weekend of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, where he was replacing Philippe.
Buurman was signed by the newly renamed Ocean Racing Technology team for the remainder of the 2008–09 GP2 Asia Series season. He was replaced for the final round by Karun Chandhok however, but he finished 19th in the championship. He was recalled to the team for the final two rounds of the 2009–10 GP2 Asia Series season.
In 2008, Buurman competed in both the GP2 Series and the new GP2 Asia Series for the Arden team, alongside Sébastien Buemi. He was not originally scheduled to race in the Asian championship, but replaced Adam Langley-Khan when the Pakistani driver decided to focus on his A1 Grand Prix and education commitments and left the team after two rounds of the season.
Buurman focused on the British Formula Three formula in 2006 and 2007. He won two races in British Formula Three 2005. He finished fourth in the British championship in 2006 and participated in four races of the Formula Three Euroseries race for Fortec. He switched to Euroseries full time in 2007 with Manor Motorsport, and took sixth place in that championship. In both years, he also participated in the Macau Grand Prix and Masters F3 events.
