L’Express, a French magazine, revealed that Yann Moix was a student who, despite his position as a strong defender of the Jewish cause, had contributed to an antisemitic, negationist magazine. Moix initially acknowledged that the drawings were his. However, he strongly denied that he wrote any of these offensive, vile texts. He said that he simply copied the work of his colleagues editors “since his handwriting is the best”. L’Express discovered a document containing the same text, possibly drafts for the magazine. It was signed by Yann Molix. The document also contained a short story about a Jew who tried to negotiate the price of his ticket to Buchenwald. Moix complied and admitted that he wrote them, saying that they made him “want-to puke” today. He also said that he was not anti-semitic but just filled with hatred for himself.

In January 2019, Moix’s comments about women over 50 caused outrage on social media in France. In an interview with the French edition of the women’s magazine Marie Claire, Moix declared that women in their 50s were “invisible” to him and that he preferred “younger women’s bodies.” He further added that he preferred dating Asian women, particularly Koreans, Chinese and Japanese.

Moix directed three films including Podium, which was based on his novel. Moix is a host of On n’est pas couche since 2015. Moix also contributes to La Regle du Jeu.

His brother Alexandre Moix, today also a writer and film producer, whose first book the publication of which Yann Moix had apparently tried to block on the grounds that “there can only be one Moix, MOI!” [him], told media that his elder “prefers to serve his own ambition rather than the truth”. He also refuses that his older brother should be a flag-bearer for suffering children, since “he doesn’t care about other people’s suffering”.
