Yanko Valkanov is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on July 25, 1982 in Stara Zagora, Stara Zagora Province, Bulgaria. Yanko Hristov Valkanov, also known as Ianko Khristov V’lkanov in Bulgarian, is a Bulgarian footballer and plays as a defender at Levski Karlovo. He prefers to play at the right-back but can also play as a central or defensive defender.

He would be moving to Shanghai Shenhua at the start of the 2009 China Super League season. He was initially criticized by fans and media for his poor performance, but he started to gain popularity at the other end of pitch. He has scored five goals in Chinese Super League and two in AFC Champions League. He is now the top scorer in his team. He scored two goals with his right shoulder against Shenzhen on 17 April 2009. However, he was criticized for poor performances by both fans and media. But he did incredible work, scoring two assists to Aleksander Rodic in critical moments.

Valkanov transferred to Shenzhen Ruby on 28 February 2010. He was released by Shenzhen in July 2010 after New Zealand defender Ivan Vicelich joined the club.

In 2011 Valkanov had a short spell with A PFG club Beroe. He signed with Kazakhstani club Akzhayik in February 2012. On 14 July 2015, Valkanov returned to FC Akzhayik, helping them win the Kazakhstan First Division and gain promotion to the Kazakhstan Premier League.

Yanko Valkanov was part of the 2006 Belarusian Cup winning team MTZ-RIPO Minsk. He was a regular on the squad, but he couldn’t establish himself as a regular for the first team. He would eventually move to Lithuanian football club FBK Kaunas in the 2007 league season. However, his time there was not productive. In July 2008, he would return home to MTZ-RIPO Minsk.

In the 1999/2000 league season, he began his professional football career at CSKA Sofia. He was quickly loaned to BeroeStara Zagora in order to get more playing time. He was again loaned to Naftex Burgas the following season, but he failed to establish himself. He returned to CSKA Sofia during league season. He would transfer to Marek Dupnitsa at the start of 2002/2003 league season. He would also attract the interest of Slavia Sofia during his time there. He would then join the team before the 2003/2004 season, where he would become an integral part of their team.

His first call-up to national team was for the friendly match against Azerbaijan on 17th November 2004.

On 8 September 2010, Valkanov signed with FC Dinamo Minsk until the end of the 2010 Belarusian Premier League season. He made his debut four days later in the 4:0 home win against FC Belshina Bobruisk, playing the full 90 minutes.
