P. was the founder of his company, the United Amateur Artists (UAA) among the top drama organizations in Madras city in 1952. His company’s drama was a huge success and he was recognized as one of the top actors of his time. Mahendra’s mother was Mrs. Rajalakshmi (also called Mrs. Y.G.P.) was the creator of The Padma Seshadri Group of Schools. Beginning with a modest start in a thatched building on an area of terraces of Y.G.P. home in 1959 and an eleventh class in a social service to residents from Nungambakkam Recreation Club. Nungambakkam Recreation Club the school has since grown into one of the top institutions in India.

Y. G. Mahendran (born 9 January 1950) is an Indian actor, dramatist performer, playwright, and comedian who hails from Tamil Nadu. He has been a part of several films and plays. Mahendra is the father of Y. G. Parthasarathy who is regarded as one of the founders of contemporary Tamil drama, and Rajalakshmi Parhasarathy who was the founder and dean for the Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan group of schools and the nephew of legendary Tamil film maker K. Balaji. Mahendra is the brother of actor Vyjayanthimala and is the co-brother of Rajinikanth as well as Mohanlal.

It was in 1971 that Mahendra had been cast as a character by the veteran filmmaker K. Balachander in the film of the latter Navagraham. The film was a moderate grosser. Mahendra was found having a peculiar nasal voice that made him hilarious. Mahendra acted in a range characters in a range of films, notably as an obnoxious joker of a cousin often surpassing roles played in the films of Cho Ramaswamy in the 1960s and the 1970s.
