Wong Kam-po is one of the most popular and richest Track Cyclist who was born on March 13, 1973 in British Hong Kong, Hong Kong. Woong Kam- po SBS BBS MH (Chinese: Huang Jin Bao; pinyin: Huang Jinbao ; Jyutping wong gam bou, born on the 13th of March, 1973 Hong Kong) in Shatin, Hong Kong, is a world champion racer. After his retirement professionally from cycling he’s currently a coach for the Hong Kong team.

Wong Kam-po has been a steadfast supporter for Hong Kong’s 2023 Asian Games bid. On November 29, 2010, addressing the Legislative Council Home Affairs Panel special meeting regarding the proposed hosting of 2023’s Asian Games, Wong Kam-po stated that the opposition of political parties to the idea hurt his heart. He stated that Hong Kong needs the spirit of sports, and urged legislators to consider the issue from a an international and long-term perspective.

In the week of 16 October, Wong Kam-po was preparing for the 11th National Games in Shandong. In preparing for the event, Wong and his team were 10 minutes early, and the security guards did not let them enter the venue. The team was then assaulted by the security. Cyclist Wong Kam-po was pushed down to the floor by the guards. Hong Kong Sports Institute coach Zhang Pak-ming (張百鳴) was surrounded by four security guards and beaten. His leg was injured. A threat was also made to destroy the HK team’s car. The incident was reported to the police, after which they were allowed to enter the venue. President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, Timothy Fok, expressed concern about the case.

Wong Kam-po became first HongKonger World Champion cyclist by winning the 15 km-scratch race at the 2007. UCI Track World Championships. He was awarded the right to sport the Rainbow Jersey for the year 2007-2008. Wong was a great performer at his 2007. UCI B World Championships road race, finishing 4th in the finishing, and his place in the 2008 Summer Olympics. He is the flag- bearer in Hong Kong.

Wong Kam-po was a member of his first stint with the Hong Kong cycling team in 1990. He left the team following being accused of fighting with one of his teammates. After meeting his coach, Shen Jiang-Kong (Chinese: Chen Jin Kang ) and rejoining the team and embarked on an impressive career and won gold medals in the National Games of China (1997 2001) as well as at the Asian Games (1998, 2006 and 2010). His win in 1997 in the Philippine Marlboro Tour was the only non-Filipino to win a championship in the tournament.

He was barred from international competitions for a single year due to his disobedience from the 1992 pre-Olympic team in France to support his coach Chow Tat-ming , who was fighting against the Hong Kong Cycling Association over pay. Wong began racing again in the first race of the 1993-94 season.

At the 2012 London Olympics, Wong Kam-Po finished 37th in the Men’s road race. His time of 5 hours, 46 minutes and 37 seconds was just 40 seconds off the winner Alexander Vinokurov.
