In 1986, he was born to Victor Wong, a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) warrant officer, and Mother Yeo Huaylan, a teacher of children, Wong has two younger brothers in the fields of tourism and engineering. In the wake of Raffles Junior College, the student might be offered a place to study Physics at Cambridge after he had achieved his A-level. At this point when he received an all-inclusive scholarship from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music at the National University of Singapore that the decision was made to pursue a degree in music composition because he “always wanted to be a professional musician.” After graduating 2011 he began working as a conducting assistant for Singapore Chinese Orchestra. In 2016, he co-founded Project Infinitude to bring music to children with Ms Marina Mahler, the granddaughter of Gustav Mahler, as part of a global music education initiative with the Mahler Foundation she founded.

The year 2011 was the time he started studying orchestral and opera conductor in the Hochschule fur Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin, Germany, after being awarded the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship. He earned his master’s degree in 2014.

Wong was the only Asian to be awarded the world-renowned Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition for young conductors at Bamberg, Germany on 12 May 2016. A Singaporean among the most popular conductors, Wong will serve as the principal conductor for the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra in Germany for four years starting in September 2018.
He along with several young musicians created an ensemble called the Asian Contemporary Ensemble to champion Singaporean and Asian composers.
Debuted in March 2015 with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Wong has since led orchestras in more than 20 cities in four continents, including the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra, the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra and the Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra.
