Wolf Howard is also drummer, having performed in punk and garage groups, and is currently an active member of The Musicians of the British Empire (MBE’s) together with Billy Childish.

A retrospective featuring his works, entitled The Pinhole Photographs of a Gifted Gentleman Amateur, took place by the Stuckism Gallery International in 2003 in conjunction with Alternative Arts Photomonth. Howard was among four Stuckist Photographers who showed work on display at the Lady Lever Art Gallery during the 2004 Liverpool Biennial. Jesse Richards wrote in a review of the exhibition “Wolf Howard’s pinhole photographs of a pocket watch, a trench cap, and his friend Billy Childish are beautiful haunting images that seem to be from a world long gone by. I’ve really never seen anything like it.”

Simon “Wolf” Howard was born in Strood, Kent and attended Mid-Kent College for O-levels, which Howard “doesn’t think he got any but always tells people he got two”. In 1986, he began to drum after he had learned it himself and has been doing this from that point on. In 1987, for fifteen years, he was on the welfare, with the exception of two months of two months in one day and a half- hour during which he was cleaning an ironmonger’s floor and sweeping a fluorescent light warehouse floor or picking apples in a shepherds-pie factory frozen. He opted out of going to art school because he believed it could “worsen himself”. The place he lives is Chatham in Chatham, where he is employed as a volunteer for the Oxfam shop.

Howard was among the original 13 founding participants of Stuckists which was a pro-figurative painting and anti-conceptual art group founded by Childish and Charles Thomson in 1999. Howard participated in group exhibitions that included The Stuckists Punk Victorian (2004) at the Walker Art Gallery for the Liverpool Biennial and Go West at Spectrum London (2006). Howard quit the group in 2006 to pursue an independent career.
