Witold Tomczak is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on April 5, 1957 in Kępno, Greater Poland Voivodeship, Poland. Witold Stanislaw Tomczak (born 5 April 1957 from Kepno) is a far- right Polish politician and a participant in the European Parliament 2004-2009.

Prior to Poland’s EU entry, Tomczak served as a Polish observer for the European Parliament. In 2004 Tomczak was appointed to be a member of the European Parliament in the Greater Poland Voivodship region, and was there from 2004 until 2009. He was a member of the euroskeptical Independence/Democracy Group in the parliament. He chaired the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and served as an alternative to members of the Committee on Culture and Education as well as a participant in the Delegation to the Joint Parliamentary Committee between the EU and Croatia.

Tomczak became the talk of Poland in 2000 in 2000, when, along with co-accused Polish Agreement member Halina Nowina-Konopka He damaged a work created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, which was on display at the National Gallery of Art Zacheta in Warsaw. It was titled La Nona Ora (The Ninth Hour) the work is an depiction of Pope John Paul II in full ceremonial attire being smashed by the impact of a meteor. Tomczak said he destroyed the statue “because this is what my voters expected me to do”. In the aftermath, Tomczak and Nowina- Konopczyna left an open letter to the premier minister, the minister of justice, as well as the minister of culture. The letter in which Tomczak denounced Anda Rottenberg, the curator of the exhibit, Anda Rottenberg, as an “civil servant of Jewish origin” who was “ignorant of the Culture and Heritage of the Polish Nation” and “refused to realize her ‘controversial’ ideas in Israel”. This letter was officially signed by the more than 91 Sejm members. The public prosecutor demanded that the suspension of Tomczak’s immunity in parliament However, the request was not approved by the Sejm’s regulator commission. Tomczak was stripped of his immunity at the European Parliament in 2008.

Before he became a politician Tomczak was an ophthalmologist. He completed his studies at his degree at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice in 1987, and then specialized in general medical practice. He worked as an omni- specialist at Leka Opatowska near Kalisz, in which he served as the local councilman between 1990 and 1998.

From 1997 to 2001 the Sejm was his home of the party conservative Christian- National Union (ZChN), which at the time was involved in the Solidarity Electoral Action party (AWS). He quit in 1999 to join the AWS in 1999, and joined his own Polish Agreement party. The year 2001 was the first time he was as a candidate for the newly formed League of Polish Families in the Kalisz district and was elected to another seat.

In 2007, Tomczak caused controversy in the European Parliament with remarks on homosexuality. According to the BBC, he declared homosexuality “was against the law of nature, and called on ‘so-called defenders of human rights’ to tackle ‘discrimination against normal families'”. The report quotes Tomczak as saying that “[e]very person has a right to life and deserves respect and help, including one who – lost and scarred – has given into homosexual tendencies. The solution is to help those who suffer and to provide them with the cure that they expect us to deliver.”
