He was a star in 1999. won the player of the year of The Danville Braves of the Rookie League and Appalachian League All-Star shortstop after having a batting average of .320 over 67 matches however, he committed 33 errors over the 67 games.

He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals, Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles.
Betemit is a graduate of 1996 from Jurczak High School, where the team played baseball. He was signed as a non-drafted free shortstop for the Atlanta Braves on July 28 at fourteen and a half older. In accordance with the age limits of Major League Baseball on minor players signing teams aren’t allowed to sign players who are younger than 16 years old. In violation of this rule the Braves were penalized $100,000 and banned from scouting or sign players of Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic for six months in 2000.
