Willie Boland is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on August 6, 1975 in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland. William John “Willie” Boland (born 6 August 1975) is an Irish former professional footballer.
Boland has come out of retirement in May of 2010 to sign with Limerick. Boland was able to make his League of Ireland debut as substitute. It proved to be his sole appearance, in Athlone Town on May 8. On April 5, the 5th of April, 2017, Boland took over as interim manager for the club after his departure from Martin Russell. Boland was as the team’s manager before the club chose Neil McDonald as Russell’s permanent replacement.
Boland declared his resignation from the game on the 21st of October 2009 after not playing in a professional game for 14 months because of knee injuries. His last appearance was on 23 August 2008, in the 1-0 loss to Stockport County. He scored the only goals in the game for Hartlepool during a 4-2 victory against Colchester United on 9 August 2008.

The boy was raised from Ennis, County Clare, Boland began his career at Coventry City, making over 60 league appearances prior to changing clubs into Cardiff City in 1999. Although he scored his first goal on the 7th of August, 1999 in the 1-1 draw against Millwall, Boland initially struggled to get back into form in Cardiff but his struggles were wasn’t helped by a fractured leg during his second season with Cardiff City, which he suffered in an encounter against Barnet. It wasn’t until he had recovered from injury that he started to make his mark in the team and in the subsequent season, Boland was awarded the club’s player-of-the year award for his performance in a three-man midfield along with Mark Bonner and Graham Kavanagh. In the following season, he helped his team secure the promotion into Division One he gradually fell out of favour under the new coach Dave Jones.
The Irishman was the longest-serving player at Cardiff City and was at Cardiff City for seven years , and playing in over 200 games until he left after his contract was terminated at the end of summer. He was unable to complete a brief time in a trial with Swansea City before in August 2006, he joined Hartlepool United.
He notably played in the Premier League for Coventry City, and in the Football League for Cardiff City and Hartlepool United. He has also played for Limerick and spent a short spell as interim manager of the club in 2017.
