Wilfred Kipkemboi (born on July 24, 1980) was a Kenyan retired middle distance runner who was awarded the 800m silver medal during the 2008 Summer Olympics at Beijing. He also took home in the World indoor Championships in Moscow in 2006, the 800 m title and defeated Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, as well as Olympic Champion Yuriy Borzakovskiy in the course of the race.

Bungei comes from Kabirirsang which is a village located near Kapsabet. A number of his family members are athletes and include Bungei’s brother Sammy Kurgat, who won the 2008 Cologne Marathon. He is a second cousin of the Kenyan born Danish ex-athlete Wilson Kipketer, while his mom is a cousin to Henry Rono.
