Wijnand Duyvendak is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on November 30, 1957 in Markelo, Netherlands. Anton Johan Wijnand (Wijnand) Duijvendak (born 30 November 1957) is a Dutch politician from the Netherlands. He was an ex-member of the House of Representatives for GreenLeft.

On the 13th of August, the year 2008, NRC Handelsblad published an open letter written by George Verberg, previous director-general of the ministry of economic affairs, and responsible for the field for nuclear power. Verberg claimed Duyvendak of inciting others to terrorize his family during the eighties, and claimed that he received ashes burning through the postbox, as well as threatening phone calls at the end in the dark. In his role as editor for Bluf! Duyvendak had published the home addresses and holiday details of six civil servants with senior positions, including Verberg. Bluf!, under the title DIY burglary, asked its readers to research those “troublemakers”. Duyvendak has never denied having evidence of arson attempted on Verbergs home , and has stated that he completely disapprove of the act. Following the release, Duyvendak’s position was made ineffective. Duyvendak then made an announcement of his resignation as a member of his position in the House of Representatives on 14 August 2008. His resignation was effective the 2nd of September, 2008. His seat was vacated by the following eligible GreenLeft Candidate on the ballot of potential candidates, Jolande Sap.

Duyvendak was elected to parliament in 2002 elections as an official member of his GreenLeft list. In the parliament, he was focused on environmental issues transport, spatial planning and environmental issues. He was thought to be one of the top green faces within the GreenLeft. He has proposed a number of proposals for reforms to the government which include the temporary law on referendums along with Niesco Dubbelboer, a member of the social-democratic PvdA and was rejected in 2005. He was in favor of the constitutional amendment that allowed referendums with Dubbelboer, as well as Boris van der Ham of the social-liberal D66 party. He has studied the powers of these commissions, committees and councils, which were according to him, subject to sufficient scrutiny by the parliamentary system. He was the GreenLeft’s chairman of the campaign committee.

Duyvendak is the oldest son of the minister of Zeist. After graduating from high school, studies in sociology, he attended the University of Amsterdam between 1976 to 1980. He was not able to complete his studies but instead , he joined the left-wing Amsterdam action world. In 2008, Duyvendak published his book Klimaatactivist in de politiek (A climate activist in politics). In this book, he described his run-ins with the law, including his 1984 jailing. He also mentioned how, in 1985, he admitted having stolen documents on nuclear power plants during a burglary on the Dutch ministry of economic affairs. Previously, Duyvendak always denied such involvement. The fall-out was severe, prompting calls for his resignation, especially after media reported that the burglary had led to threats of violence against civil servants.
