He was born in Rio Branco, Acre, Weverton was a part of Corinthians’ youth squad in 2006, when he was 19 after impressing in the match against Juventus. He was elevated to the main team of Corinthians in 2007 but was reduced to fourth-choice following Rafael Santos’ promotion. Weverton was then loaned out by Remo, Oeste and America (RN). The latter team saw him often during Serie B, sharing minutes with veteran Rodolpho.
Weverton has been released from Timao in January 2010 , and shortly thereafter, he relocated in Botafogo (SP). After impressing in the team the club, he joined Portuguesa on May 12. Weverton was a regular player at Lusa playing in every league match in 2011 as Lusa were champions.
On 31 July 2016, he was called by the Brazilian Olympic team for the 2016 Summer Olympics by manager Rogério Micale to replace Fernando Prass who left the team due to injury. In the gold medal match, Weverton made a key save against Germany’s Nils Petersen on the fifth penalty shot, which helped Brazil win their first Olympic football gold.
