As an actual newcomer on the campus of Oklahoma State University in 2012, Lunt was named the quarterback in the opening game of the season. He became the first freshman to begin the opening game of Oklahoma State since 1950 and the first true freshman to begin the football game after Tone Jones back in 1993. In all, he took part in six games and played five games, completing 81 out of 131 passes to gain 1108 yards and six touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

After going undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft, Lunt signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2017. On July 28, 2017, he was waived by the Vikings.

In his senior season, Lunt completed 253-for-346 (73 percent) on his passes and threw 31,651 yards, 3,651 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions in the course of 10 games in the year 2011. That gave Lunt his career best numbers of 478-for-664 (72 percent) completions 7,418 yards, 65 TDs and 8 interceptions. The year 2011 was a great one for Lunt. Lunt was the quarterback who led the Rockets to a second consecutive 4A IHSA Football Championship with 42-39 win victory over Richmond-Burton Community High School at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois. In the state championship match, Lunt set an Illinois record for the state championship game by throwing 506 total yards. Actually, Lunt began an Illinois state championship streak that continued through 2015 when he won his fifth Rockets 5 State Championship in row.

In his junior year in 2010 at Rochester High School in 2010, Lunt led the Rockets to a perfect 14-0 mark by winning 24-7 during the 2009 4A IHSA Football Championship over Alleman High School in Champaign, Illinois at Memorial Stadium.
