Biggins was a late entrant to league football. Despite the fact that the first team he joined was Lincoln City he played just eight games with them before being released. Then he played in non-league football with Matlock Town and King’s Lynn and was employed as hod carrier. Biggins was able to get back into league football through Burnley and they took on Biggins as a player from Matlock for a small cost in February 1984. Biggins scored four goals in his first four games for Burnley, the Lancashire club, which included an hat-trick in a match against his old club Lincoln. He was always present for Burnley throughout the 1984-85 campaign however, although he netted 21 goals across all competitions , he failed to stop the club from being sent into the Fourth Division for the first time in Burnley’s history. Biggins had scored 4 goals over 12 games during the season following and his performance caught the eye of Norwich City, whose manager Ken Brown signed him in October 1985 to sign an amount of PS35,000 for his transfer.

Norwich were building their team after being relegated from the first division. They wanted to return to the top of the league on their first try. They were successful with their efforts, and Biggins completed his season by winning a second division champion medal. He remained in Carrow Road until the summer of 1988, when Manchester City’s Manager Mel Machin – who had since the summer of Brown’s assistant in Norwich was able to take the player into Maine Road. He scored 9 goals over thirty-two games at Manchester City before moving to Stoke City in August 1989 for a cost of PS250,000. There were a variety of costly signings by the manager Mick Mills in the summer of 1989 when Stoke tried to get promoted. However , the results were poor that resulted in the loss of Mills his job. Likewise, newly appointed manager Alan Ball failed to stop Stoke’s decline and were relegated in Third Division. Third Division, Biggins top-scored in 1989-90, scoring 11 goals. In 1990-91, Biggins was the top goalscorer with 12, before having the most prolific year of his career between 1991 and 1992. Biggins scored 28 goals when Stoke were defeated in the play-offs against Stockport County, although they did beat County in the 1992 Football League Trophy Final.
