Wataru Yashiro is one of the most popular and richest Shogi Player who was born on March 3, 1994 in Kamo District, Japan. Yashiro is born the 3rd of March 1994 located in Kamo District, Shizuoka. He learned the art of shogi from his father while the first grade was his first school student. He was accepted into Japan’s Shogi Association’s Apprentice School at the rank of 6kyu in September of 2005 under the direction of shogi professional Teruichi Aono.
Yashiro was able to defeat Yasuaki Murayama in his 10-year-old Asahi Cup Open [ja] in February of 2017 to claim his sole shogi tournament championship to date. Yashiro was only twenty-two years old older at the time which was the youngest athlete to have ever won the championship. Yashiro’s record was broken the next year by Sota Fujii who took home in the 11th Asahi Cup Open as a fifteen year old.
Yashiro was awarded his award from Japan Shogi Association Annual Shogi Award for “Best New Player” for the 2016-17 Shogi Year.

At beginning, Yashiro had some difficulty being an apprentice professional, and almost got moved to the rank of 7-kyu. However Yashiro began to regularly train at Kamata’s Shogi club, a famous shogi school where professional athletes, strong amateurs and even professional athletes would train. His performance were quickly improving. Yashiro was promoted to the 1-dan rank in 2008, then 3-dan in April of 2010. He earned his professional level and was promoted to the rank of 4-dan in March 2012 , after being runner-up at the 50th 3dan league (October 2011 to March 2012) with fourteen wins, and four defeats.
