Abe hosts NHK’s talk show in the evening called Gogonama. From 2008 to 2017 he worked as a anchor on NHK’s morning news program NHK News Ohayo Nippon.
His first appearance on a national news was as the anchor of the news on weekends for NHK News 7 in April 2000. He was on the air for one year the program.
On June 9, 2017, Abe was promoted to Executive Announcer.
In April 2017, Abe handed over the job of the news anchor for NHK News Ohayō Nippon to Kozo Takase and became host for NHK’s evening infotainment talk show Gogonama with actor Eiichiro Funakoshi and actress Jun Miho.
On the 31st of December of 2000 Abe took part in live-streaming of NHK’s year end music program Kohaku Uta Gassen on NHK Radio. Between 2001 and 2004, Abe took on an important role as host of White Team (shirogumi) on Kohaku Uta Gassen. Between 2009 and 2011 he took over as the host of the main show. Additionally, he was narrator on the Taiga the drama Toshiie in Matsu in 2002. He was host of the ceremony that opened Expo 2005 in Aichi Prefecture on behalf of Japan in March 2005. In addition, as host for Sunday Studio Park between April 2005 to March 2006.
