Wassef Ali Hassoun is one of the most popular and richest Military Personnel who was born on January 1, 1980 in Lebanon. Wassef Ali Hassoun (Arabic:”wSf ly” Hswn born January 1st 1980) was an United States Marine who was accused of dereliction for having left his unit and joining other members of a conspiracy to create the impression that he was captured by terrorists on the 19th June 2004, while in Iraq. At first, he was reported to have left the unit, the Lebanese-born U.S. Marine was then believed to have been held captive by Iraqis who are believed to have bonded with the man.
Al Jazeera broadcast a video of Hassoun on the 27th of June 2004 in a blindfolded state, with an unidentified man who was wearing a sword to his head, claiming that he had been taken. The “kidnappers” identified themselves as members of “Islamic Response”, the security division that is part of the “National Islamic Resistance” 1920 Revolution Brigades.
On June 29, 2014, Hassoun was reported to have turned himself in to U.S. authorities on the two charges of desertion.
On February 23, 2015, Hassoun was found guilty of deserting when he disappeared in 2004 and 2005, and was convicted of causing the loss of his service pistol. His sentence amounts to two years and five days after credit for approximately eight months he spent in pretrial confinement. Hassoun also will have his rank reduced, lose his pay and receive a dishonorable discharge as part of the sentence. He was discharged in 2016.
On the 3rd of July of 2004 Al Jazeera reported that the terrorist group Jaish Ansar al-Sunna had released an announcement that they had killed Hassoun the website of their group confirmed that. On July 4, it was reported that al- Sunna denied it and on July 6, Al Jazeera reported receipt of a text message that said he’d been “taken to a safe location” following his promise to leave to the U.S. Marine Corps. On July 7 CNN stated that Hassoun had called his family members in West Jordan, Utah and Lebanon via his home in Lebanon, as well as from the U.S. Embassy in Beirut and asked to be taken to an unidentified address. The Houston Chronicle stated later the same day that his family members and the embassy involved have denied that the call took place.

On the 9th of December on the 9th of December, 2004, The U.S. Department of Defense declared that Hassoun would be accused of desertion, theft and improper disposal of military property to his military-issued M9 pistol, which vanished along with him and never showed up. Should he be found guilty, he would face an honorable discharge, forfeiture of all wages as well as up to 10 years of incarceration according to each specification.
