Walid Ismail is one of the most popular and richest Brazilian mixed martial artist who was born on February 23, 1968 in Manaus, State of Amazonas, Brazil. Wallid Farid Ismail (Arabic: Wlyd Fried Smyl , born on 23 February 1968) is a Brazilian mixed martial artist and promoter of Lebanese descent. Ismail is the rank of rank of black in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) with Carlson Gracie, and is an IVC mixed martial arts world champion as well as BJJ Champion. Mixed martial art, Ismail was also a competitor for PRIDE, the UFC as well as PRIDE and the majority of the wins in the sport were a result of submission.

In the year 1996, Wallid was involved in an altercation that was violent with Edson Carvalho Black belt in Judo and his fellow Carlson Gracie student. The incident occurred at Georges Mehdi’s judo academy that was where both Ismail as well as Carvalho were studying during the period. After heated exchanges between both of them, fight was turned into a complete fight after Ismail and Carvalho engaged in a fight. Mehdi intervened to stop the fight and force them from the academy, however the two fighters recommenced fighting shortly after they got out on the streets. In the wake of the incident, Mehdi opted for calling the police, however it was too late and did not allow for compromise in order to stop the fighting, and Wallid was brutally beat down and left with a massive bleeding. When the fight was completed, Ismail had to be taken care of by Mehdi himself, and was treated for one week in the ICU and was treated with 20 stitches on his head, two orbital bones broken , as well as others facial wounds.

In 1998, he defeated Johil de Oliveira by submission due to strikes, and then defeated Gary Myers via decision.

Only Royce accepted the challenge, though demanding special conditions for the fight, like having no point scoring and no time limit, thus making the fight only winnable by submission. With renowned Hélio Vigio as the referee, the bout took place on December 17, 1998, and was won by Ismail after four minutes and fifty three seconds, choking Gracie unconscious with the Relógio (also known as clock choke or koshi-jime in judo), a move that has been associated with Wallid ever since. The bout had a significant international repercussion due to Royce’s previous career in Ultimate Fighting Championship, to the point Keith Vargo from the Black Belt magazine stated, “One thing is certain: Royce Gracie is no longer the messiah of unarmed combat he once was.”

Following his first win in the championship, Ismail had a famous duel with Ralph Gracie, whom he believed to be a member of the Gracie family had specially trained to beat over the course of three seasons. He Carlson Gracie apprentice beat Ralph in the Copa Rio Sport Center, getting a decision from a referee. The year 1993 was the time Wallid won a second victory against the Gracie by defeating Renzo Gracie who had been in training for two years to get revenge. Ismail later challenged the most prominent family members, Rickson and Royce, saying he’d fight anyone in any way.
