Wahidin Halim was born at Pinang, Tangerang, then part of West Java province, on 14 August 1954. As the third of nine children his father was a primary school teacher. After graduating from High School in Tangerang and obtaining his bachelor’s degree at the University of Indonesia on 1978. Later, he earned master’s degrees in Satyagama University and a doctorate from Padjadjaran University.

Halim is a native of Tangerang and finished his higher education at Tangerang at the University of Indonesia. His first job was working as an administrative assistant in Tangerang until he was eventually appointed Tangerang’s city secretary prior to his appointment as mayor in 2003.

Following the expiry of his second term, Halim ran under Demokrat as a legislative candidate in the 2014 election to the People’s Representative Council, representing Tangerang.
