With his incredible speed, he joined the team as kickoff returner. In the second match against the San Francisco 49ers, he was injured by a stretched hamstring tendon over his left knee. He was put as an injured reserve following his fifth match. He was activated at the end of the thirteenth match, to take over the role of the linebacker Thomas Henderson. In the season’s final game, he was instrumental in establishing the winning play with 17 punt returns (the most long of the season for the Cowboys) in the game against Philadelphia Eagles.
On October 18, 1983, he signed with the Denver Gold of the United States Football League. He was released on February 13, 1984.
