Korolyov was dismissed from his post on May 3rd, 2019 and was succeeded as the Commanding Officer of the Navy by Nikolai Yevmenov

Korolyov was a graduate of his school, the Frunze Higher Naval School in 1977. He was a student in an officer of the highest rank training program in the N. G. Kuznetsov Naval Academy in 1987. Korolyov was a submariner for a time, first as a navigating officer on K467 (1977-81) and later as the deputy commander of K495 (1981-84) as well as commander of the K-488’s submarine (1987-88) and commander of K-387’s submarine (1988-93) in 1988-93, and as the deputy leader of the 24th division of submarines (December 1993 to the month of April in 1996). He was employed in the anti-submarine division of Northern Fleet (1996-2000) and was the base commander at the Gadzhievo Naval base from 2002. He later became head of the staff (September 2002 to August of 2005) and later commanded subs in the 12th Squadron, part of the Northern fleet (August 2005 to the end of November 2007,).

In 2007 Korolyov was named deputy commander of the Northern Fleet and in 2008 the squadron was commanded by him. of ships , including the warship Pyotr Velikiy and Admiral Chabanenko that participated in training activities within the Caribbean Sea visiting Cuba, Venezuela and Panama. Korolyov was named as chief of staff, and vice commander for the Northern Fleet in 2009. In 2010, he assumed the position of the commander of the Black Sea Fleet and in 2011, he was named to be the commander of the Northern Fleet.
