His musical career began during the first seventies in Lviv in which he formed two early Ukrainian rock bands – “Quo Vadis” in 1971 and “Arnika” in 1972. In the year 1976 Victor had been hired an individualist in the group “Vatra” and in 1979 began his solo career with the well-known band “Smerichka”. The group gave him the chance to collaborate with famous composers and musicians, including Ihor Bilozir Oksana Bilozir Vika, Nazariy Yaremchuk and Volodymyr Ivasyuk. Through these ensembles, Victor also had the opportunity to represent Ukraine and in the past Soviet Union, at many international music festivals.
In the mid nineties, Victor started the band “Chetvertyj Kut” (“The Fourth Corner”) together with Oleh Yarema, a younger guitar virtuoso and composer as well as Roman Lozynsky, a violinist and sound engineer. The self-titled debut album was an acoustic project that interspersed the instrumental with romantic ballads, was among the 10 top best-selling albums in Ukraine in 1994. “Chetvertyj Kut” has grown to include bassist Oleh “John” Suk and drummer/percussionist/sound-engineer Andrij Piatakov in many of their recordings. “Alina”, a song from their album “Treba Vstaty i Vyjty” (“Stand up and leave”) has risen to the top spot on the popular Lviv parade after just three hours of airtime on radio.
Victor Morozov is currently performing as a soloist, continuing his work with the “Chetvertyj Kut” project and “Ne Zhurys!”, as well as collaborating with the groups “Mertvyj Piven'” (the CD “Aphrodisiacs” was released in March 2003) and “Batiar-Band Halychyna” (releasing a CD of Lviv batiar songs – “Tilku vi Lvovi” (“Only in Lviv”) – in November 2002).
The year was 1988. Victor joined the ranks of original founders and artistic directors in the group “Ne Zhurys!” (“Don’t worry! “), a cabaret-style musical theatre group that combined comedy and political satire. Their musical-theater productions frequently pointedly mocked and criticised the Soviet regime, and played a key role in creating awareness of national issues in Ukraine prior to the country’s independence. They took the risk to sing songs that were banned by Soviet censors , and in 1989 was the first group to sing publicly Mykhailo Verbytsky’s “Shche ne vmerla Ukraina” (“Ukraine’s glory has not vanished”) which was the former and future national anthem for independent Ukraine that was legally prohibited in the early days.
