Mick Docherty Biography

Birthday Oct 29
Birth Year 1950

Mick Docherty is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on October 29, 1950 in City of Preston, England, United Kingdom. Michael Docherty, born 29 October 1950 in Preston (Lancashire), is an ex-footballer and coach. He is the older son of Tommy Docherty, a famous manager.

Later, he assisted Dave Sutton. He was named Rochdale’s manager in 1994. This job was accepted after three other candidates declined. He led Dale to victory in the Northern Final of Auto Windscreens Trophy 1994/95. 1995/96 was his last full season as manager. A bright start led to a match in the FA Cup at Liverpool. The team fell into decline, with Docherty being fired shortly after the season ended. This was apparently because of concern over some of his decisions regarding the retained list. Graham Barrow replaced him. The season can be found in Kicking In The Wind, a fly-on-the wall book.

On 14 May 2008, he again teamed up with Stan Ternent and Ronnie Jepson in a coaching role at Huddersfield Town. He left the club on 4 November, following Ternent’s departure as manager.

He has been able to find work since then, though rarely as a manager. Between June and December 1983, Hartlepool United was his temporary manager. This spell is most notable for signing Ray Kennedy, an ailing player from Swansea City.
