In 1982, just a few months after the graduation ceremony, Viire Valdma began an engagement with the Vanalinnastuudio (Old Town Studio Theatre) located in Tallinn. She would stay at the Vanalinnastuudio until the year 1996. Her debut came at the theater in the character of Alvetina Ivanova in the production of Semyon Zlotnikov play A Man came to A Woman in 1982. In her time at the Vanalinnastuudio theatre, she performed in the roles of plays by the playwrights and authors such like: Shakespeare, Eduardo De Filippo, Oskar Luts, August Strindberg, Joseph Kesselring, Jean Genet, Felicien Marceau, Achille Campanile, Slawomir Mrozek, Johnnie Mortimer and Brian Cooke, Willy Russell, Neil Simon, George Gershwin, Ray Cooney, and Marc Camoletti, among others.

In 1990, she appeared as the character Liivi in the Aimée Beekman and Vladimir Beekman penned, Kaljo Kiisk directed drama Regina. Following her appearance in Regina, Valdma would concentrate on her stage career and not appear in another film until a small role in 2002’s Marko Raat directed political thriller Agent Sinikael, starring Mait Malmsten and Kersti Heinloo.
It was in 1981 that Vire Valdma had her film debut as Reet Parn. She was in the Peeter Simm-directed drama Ideaalmaastik. The film was inspired by the novel of Karl Helemae in which a member of the Young Communist League arrives at an agricultural community and is forced to choose between the advice of the villagers or follow the directives of the Communist party officials. The film is followed up by the character of Milla in the 1983 film. Kaljo Kiisk film Nipernaadi for Tallinnfilm and was a remake of August Gailit’s 1928 acclaimed novel Toomas Nipernaadi.
