In the following year, Engonga signed with RCD Mallorca under the supervision of Hector Cuper as well as five former teammates which included Ivan Campo. Engonga played his best football with his club’s Balearic Islands side, helping them to win their first Spanish Supercup after beating FC Barcelona 3-1 in an aggregate. In the same year, they made it to Finals in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Trophy and lost 1-1 in the final to S.S. Lazio.

During the 2000–01 campaign, Engonga scored twice in 31 league games as his team earned a third-place finish, qualifying to the UEFA Champions League for the first time. In their first match in the competition, he scored the only goal of the game to defeat Arsenal at Son Moix, an 11th-minute penalty after Ashley Cole was sent off for fouling Albert Luque.

Engonga was a Spanish international for two years, and represented the team at Euro 2000.

On September 23, 1998, at the age of nearly thirty-three, Engonga made his debut as a member of his Spanish national team. He took part in all 90 minutes in the 1-0 win in a friendly match against Russia on Granada. Engonga was the second-oldest player to make his debut for Spain, following Ferenc Puskas aged 34, who was a former player for Hungary.

As of 1991, Engonga was transferred into Real Valladolid in La Liga. The first season he played for the club was relegated to the Segunda Division and he left to join RC Celta de Vigo, where he was finalist in the 1994 Copa del Rey.
