Renard was a direct descendant from the German conductor/composer Paul Albin Stenz who was presented with his Gold Medal of Orange-Nassau by Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. A year before his demise in 1918,, he was granted citizenship as an Dutch citizen. His grandfather, Johannes (Paul) Renard was a painter of cityscapes from Rotterdam.
In 1982 at the age 17 Renard became an adult woman, with the help of her family, friends , and the people from her home town. Renard’s mother changed her name to Veronique. When she was in 1983 Renard received permission from a judge located in Utrecht in the Netherlands to change her official name. she also added her second name Francoise (after the best of her friends) and a the third names Caroline (after Caroline Cossey, who was a British model who starred in the film James Bond of 1981 For Your Eyes Only with Roger Moore).
Renard had numerous romantic relationships, some of which she describes in her memoirs including Malicious Mistake (1985) and Pholomolo – No man No Woman (2007). Several ended when her gender identity as a trans woman was revealed. In 1992, during a business trip to the French Riviera, she met a young British aristocrat residing in Paris, the son of a billionaire. Though deeply in love with each other, the man was forced by his parents to end his relationship with her in order to marry a British lady (aristocrat).
In May 2000, Renard established the Pantau Foundation to raise funds and help destitute Tibetan refugee children living in exile in India. Together with her Dharamsala-based spokesperson, Jonathan Blair, and New York-based friends Bobby John Parker Jr. and Sebastian Bond, the foundation supports a growing number of Tibetan children.
Renard began working in the year 1982 while working for a local travel company. After that, she became an assistant manager at Philips Electronics and Mercedes Benz. Since 1984, she has held various positions at The University of Utrecht. In 1987, she began becoming the personal assistant to the vice-president for Amdahl Netherlands. In 1989, Renard was employed by Amdahl’s principal rival IBM. Since she was dissatisfied with IBM’s corporate culture She was able to find a new job at TNT-XP. Renard quit the company within six months. In the year 1990, while working as a temp at ExpoConsult when she was contacted by a business associate of ExpoConsult and the publisher in the US, Conway Data Inc. The president requested her to establish a European headquarters, and launch an European issue of their magazine for business Site Selection, and represent ExpoConsult on international occasions. She also served as the director of Industrial Development Research Council (IDRC) Europe. In 1994, Renard was fired from the business in order to focus on her studies at university. She was awarded the title of Ph.D. on Dutch Literature in 1997. In 1997, Renard began her career as an office manager at Lucent Technologies. After five months, Renard was informed by one of her colleagues that there were rumors in the workplace about Renard’s transsexuality and possible dismissal. Renard warned Lucent to bring the company to court and accuse the two of discrimination. The matter was settled without a court hearing. The last time she worked for Renard was January 1999. She was an office manager and relocation supervisor at Davilex which was a rapidly growing computer game business that was currently in the process of creating a new headquarters. After Renard had completed the relocation project of the company the president contacted her to quit the company. Renard was informed about the fact that Davilex’s board had found out about her transsexuality. Renard threatened Davilex with taking the board to court and create the media a big deal from her demotion. Davilex and the lawyers for Renard ultimately settled the case without going to court.

In October 1984, the Dutch Government granted Renard permission to have her gender corrected on her birth certificate. Renard is most likely the first post-operative trans woman in the world to be legally recognized as a female.
