Jenny Marielle Pettersson (born November 5 1975, Helsingborg, Sweden), professionally referred to by the stage name Velvet is an Swedish dance-pop artist. The singer has recorded two albums following her debut in the world of music and her initial eight singles have all reached the top 20 spot at the Swedish Singles Chart.

In 2006, Velvet was a participant in Melodifestivalen in order to be a representative of Sweden in Melodifestivalen to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest but lost the contest to Carola. She was entered with “Mi Amore”, which quickly became a fan favorite and was a huge hit internationally and became the The Song of the Year 2006 in Bulgaria. It was a top chart hit across Russia, Poland, Hungary, Greece and Italy. In the year 2000, Velvet launched her album debut Finally.

“Chemistry” was released as a single in the US on November 11, 2008 as a digital download, followed by a physical release on November 25. It includes the original version of the song and four remixes, but failed to chart. A music video for the song was shot in London in December 2008, and the song will be released in UK sometime in 2009.

After a strong presence in the UK club music scene for several years, “Fix Me” was officially released on August 11, 2008. Later that month, Velvet also released her new single “Take My Body Close”, which reached No. 8 in Sweden and No. 14 in Poland.

Velvet came to light in the year 2005 and signed by Bonnier Amigo Music Group. She claimed that she had come to”Velvet” as her first title “Velvet” on her own after she received what she referred to as “bad suggestions” from her record label. She decided on “Velvet” because she wanted to choose a name that was suitable for her and what she could be proud of.

Velvet quickly released her debut song, “Rock Down To (Electric Avenue)” (with the chorus of the 1980s track “Electric Avenue)”, that was a huge smash in Sweden as well as internationally. The song, which is still played in clubs throughout Sweden it reached the top spot on the Swedish Dance Charts for 22 weeks. Her second track “Don’t Stop Movin'” was also a hit which was followed up by a concert tour.

In 2007 Velvet released her fourth single, “Fix Me”, which has been added to the re-release of Finally. The song failed to chart as high as her previous singles in Poland and Russia, but became a big success in the US, peaking at No. 14. Later in August she released her fifth single, “Chemistry”, it being the only one of her singles to chart in Finland.
