Her record is among the top Russian female World Cup ski racer, having won a total of four events (Svetlana Gladishiva is the sole another Russian woman to be the winner of an entire World Cup race).
Zelenskaya was eliminated from competition at the top level in April 2002, following the conclusion of World Cup season and the Russian national championships, where she took home her first Super G and placed second in the downhill. After pregnancy of her child in 2003 She returned to her restricted competition in 2004 winning the downhill as well as the Super G at the Russian national championships in the same year. She then won the national champion in the Super G again in 2006.
Zelenskaya was married to Julien Degeorges, the former physiotherapist of the French women’s team in 2001. Her identity on the passport of her was “Varvara Vladimirovna Degeorges” since the day of their wedding. Their child Marta is due in the year 2003. Their son Anton was born in 2008.

Zelenskaya began her career in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup circuit in February 1989, at age 16 and continued to compete for 14 seasons up to 2002. She was the winner of the title in four World Cup races in 1996 and 1997, all of them downhill. She also landed on the World Cup podium (top three) in 12 downhill races as well as an Super G from 1990 to 1997. She made her first podium finish at just 18 years old on the 21, 1990 at Morzine, France. She was 3rd in the World Cup downhill standings and 10th overall in 1997, her highest finish on the track.
She also took part at the four Winter Olympics (1992, 1994 1998, 1992, 2002) in addition to Five FIS World Alpine Ski Championships (1991 1993, 1994 1997 2001) as a member of Russia, the Soviet Union (1991), Unified Team (1992), and Russia (subsequently). She finished in the top ten numerous times during those competitions, but she did not get any medals.
