Valery Asapov Biography

Valery Asapov is one of the most popular and richest Military Personnel who was born on January 1, 1966 in Kalinino, Chuvashia, Russia. Valery Grigorievich Asapov (Russian: Valerii Grigor’evich Asapov ; 1 January 1966 – 23 September 2017) was Lieutenant General in the Ground Troops. As per the Russian Defence Ministry, he was killed on September 23rd, 2017 by mortar shells fired by ISIL militants in the vicinity of the town in Deir ez-Zor during the Russian military intervention during the Syrian Civil War making him the highest ranking Russian soldier killed during the Syrian Civil War. Asapov’s post in Syria was defined in officials of the Ministry of Defence as the leader member of the team of Russian military advisors in Syria.

He was admitted to into the M. V. Frunze Military Academy in 1997. He received a degree in 2000. Following that, he was appointed deputy commander of ex- 345th Independent Guards Airborne Regiment that was part of the peacekeeping force stationed in Georgia’s separatist area of Abkhazia. As of 2001, he was named to be the commander of the 345th Independent Guards Airborne Regiment. In 2003 Colonel Asapov was named the first deputy commander for the 98th Guards Airborne Division based in Ivanovo and, 18 months later, he was made the chief of staff for the division. From 2003 to 2004, he was a participant as a soldier in The Second Chechen War.

In 2011, he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia. In June, Col Valery Asapov was appointed commander of the 37th Guards Independent Motor Rifle Brigade (in Kyakhta) of the 36th Army stationed in Buryatia.

On 23 February 2013, Col Valery Asapov, then commander of the Motor Rifle brigade, was awarded the 4th Class of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” by Russian president Vladimir Putin.

From 1992 to 1993 Valery Asapov worked as a soldier in South Ossetia. In the beginning of January, 1995, Asapov was transferred for Chechnya located in Southern Russia. He was severely wounded in the Battle of Grozny in the initial First Chechen War. He was treated four times in different medical establishments and completely recovered within a year but was left with a limp.
