On the 20th of April on the 20th of April, 2016 Higbee was arrested for second-degree assault, intoxication with alcohol at a public location and fleeing the police following an incident that occurred on April 10, in which the man was brutally assaulted by Higbee who was of Middle Eastern descent outside of Tidball’s nightclub at Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was identified and detained after fleeing from the scene. In the police report Higbee claimed he ran into Nawaf Alsaleh several times. The first incident occurred at the Dublin’s Pub in Dublin, in which Higbee said Alsaleh was constantly rubbing his head against his and his girlfriend’s face repeatedly and ignored repeated requests to stop. Higbee further stated that Alsaleh was calling his buddies asking them to visit their spot in order to take on Higbee.” Higbee was questioned by an officer as to how he understood the words Alsaleh stated since he was speaking in a language he did not comprehend and Higbee replied that it was because he “just was aware of.” In Jail, Higbee stated to the officers who were in the jail “that Alsaleh never tried to fight him or come after him as if he was going to harm him.” Higbee stated that “Alsaleh got into his and (his girlfriend’s) personal space so he hit Alsaleh,” according to the report. Numerous witnesses claimed that Alsaleh was seated with his hands on his back as two men of white skin were observed fighting with him and shouting racist slurs, before striking him one time. After the attack, Higbee was quoted as saying “ISIS these [expletive],” and “[expletive] you, go back to your country.” The victim, Nawaf Alsaleh, was found unconscious and not responding in the parking area of the bar. He was taken to the hospital for concussion and brain hemorrhage.

Higbee was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round (110th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. He was the 27th player selected in the NFL Draft in Western Kentucky’s school history and the highest selection since Joseph Jefferson in 2002. He also was the first player selected from Western Kentucky in 2016 and along with Brandon Doughty, and Prince Charles Iworah, made up the largest draft class in the school’s history.
