Pitching for the Springfield Cardinals in 2009 he was 2–4 with a 4.34 ERA in 9 starts. Herron was released by the St. Louis Cardinals in June 2009. He was then signed that month by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pitching the remainder of the season for the Altoona Curve of the AA Eastern League, he was 0–2 with a 4.50 ERA.
