Haverty was born on the 21st of August 1980 in Richardson, Texas to Leighton Haverty and E.R. (Bo) Campbell. The father of his son played at the level of college for LSU. Haverty was a student at Berkner High School in his hometown, He was three times All District and All-Area choice. In his junior year Haverty was second overall for receiving yards.
on December 30th, 2012 it was revealed that Haverty was accepted as a coach post at his former school Texas Tech under head coach Kliff Kingsbury. Haverty was a part of Texas Tech while Kingsbury was the team’s quarterback.
On January 26, 2016, Haverty was named defensive coordinator for the Lamar Cardinals. He replaces Craig McGallion who announced his retirement in November, 2015.
Haverty was a first-time coach who began with Midlothian High School before coaching wide receivers at Cisco College in the year 2006. He was then employed for a few years as an assistant to graduate students at TCU before playing in the 2010 season as an offensive coordinator at Millsaps. In 2011 Haverty was back at TCU to take on the safeties coach job which was vacant after Chad Glasgow who had become the defensive coordinator of Texas Tech. After the 2011 season as well as Glasgow’s return back in TCU, Haverty was moved into the wide receivers’ coach post.

Trey Haverty (born August 21 1981) is a American football coach as well as a former player. The current position is the safety director for Southern Methodist University. He was director of defense for Lamar University. Haverty played in the NCAA football tournament in the wide-receiving position for Texas Tech University.
Haverty was a wide receiver for Texas Tech from 2000 to 2004. He was named Academic Second-Team All-Big 12 during in 2003. In his senior year in 2004 Haverty earned the distinction of Second-Team All American from Sports Illustrated and Third-Team by the Associated Press. He also led in the Big 12 Conference in receptions and was second in receiving yards.
Haverty was named as Texas Tech’s safeties coach for the 2013 season and coached the position for two years. His coaching position was changed to outside linebackers for the 2015 season before being fired in December.
