As a youth, he was the state president and vice-president, respectively of 4-H and the Future Farmers of America organizations. In 1996, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University in College Station. He was elected by the student body as a yell leader at TAMU, as was an earlier alumnus Governor Rick Perry. Ashby is president of Community Title Company, which maintains offices in Angelina as well as Nacogdoches and Polk counties.
