In 2001, following five years with the club, he resigned Orient and was recruited by Darlington before leaving in the month of October 2002. Taylor was then recruited by Conference club Farnborough Town, officially taking his manager’s job in May 2003.
In November 2004, Taylor was appointed manager at King’s Lynn. In 2006, he joined rivals Peterborough United as assistant to Keith Alexander. At the time of his departure King’s Lynn were top of the Southern League. On 15 January 2007, following the departure of Alexander, he was appointed caretaker manager. With the job going to Darren Ferguson five days later, Taylor became number two once again, after overseeing one loss for the club.

Taylor was appointed youth team manager of Cambridge United in 1993 and was later appointed manager of the team’s first team in 1995. The following year Taylor was back at Brisbane Road to manage Leyton Orient.

Taylor was signed by West Ham United in October 1970. He was part of the team which took home the FA Cup in 1975.
