On the 28th of May 2010 that Doherty was to sign for English League Two side Bradford City for a two-year deal. He was let go of his contract on May 4, 2011 immediately.

Doherty signed for Newport County on 11 June 2011 and was released by Newport in January 2012. In February 2012, Doherty signed a non-contract deal with Conference National side Bath City.

In the summer of 2007, Wycombe attempted to sign him but due to numerous reasons, the deal not agreed upon. Then he was struck down with an illness while on holiday, which resulted in the end of talks. Doherty rejoined the club on a second loan agreement in October 2007 and was signed permanent in January 2008, when the club released him from QPR. Another impressive performance from Doherty resulted in Wycombe elevated into Football League One as well as his inclusion to the PFA League Two Team of the Year twice at the conclusion of the 2008-09 season.
