Tomislav Butina is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on March 30, 1974 in Zagreb, Croatia. Tomislav Butina (pronounced [tomislav butinaborn on the 30th of March 1974) is a Croatian former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper at Dinamo Zagreb, Club Brugge and Olympiacos. He also was capped 28 times by Croatia’s Croatia national team during the time period between 2001 and 2006. He was also a part of Croatian teams for in 2002 as well as the 2006 FIFA World Cups, and UEFA Euro 2004.
Butina made his international debut for Croatia in the 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifier against San Marino on 5 September 2001 in Serravalle in which Croatia defeated 4-0. Butina earned a total of 28 international caps over the course of five years being a part of the Croatian national team. He made his final international appearance during Croatia’s 1-0 loss to Poland during a friendly game that was played on June 3 in Wolfsburg as part of the preparations of both teams to play in their participation in the 2006. FIFA World Cup tournament. This was his sole international appearance in the 2006 season.
Butina was called to take part in a 23-man squad at the 2002 FIFA World Cup final tournament by then manager Mirko Jozić and was issued the number 12 shirt. At the tournament, he remained an unused substitute in all of the team’s three group matches, serving as the second-choice goalkeeper behind Stipe Pletikosa.
Butina is married and a father of two children: Magdalena (born c. 2003) and Hrvoje (born 2009). Formerly a resident of Velika Gorica, in 2009 he moved with his family to the Šalata neighborhood in Zagreb. Butina currently he resides in Dubai with his family, working as a coach in Al-Nasr youth academy.
Butina began his career in the Croatia under-21 squad on April 19, 1994. He played all 90 minutes of a friendly game against Slovakia which ended in a draw that was goalless. Butina was awarded a total of 11 caps in international competition for Croatia’s team’s under-21 squad between April 1994 until October 1995. Butina joined the Dinamo Zagreb senior squad in the inaugural season of Prva HNL. He made his debut for Dinamo Zagreb on the 23rd of May 1993. Because of Drazen Ladic’s indisputable position goalkeeper who was the first choice of the club, Butina was sent on loans to smaller Prva HNL clubs. Then, he had long-term loan periods for Karlovac, Samobor and Slaven Belupo. Then he returned with Dinamo in 1997 and made six league appearances both in the 1999-2000 and 1997-98 winning campaigns. He was also the goalkeeper of the club’s first choice following Ladic’s retirement from the club in 2000. In the following three seasons, Butina was a regular as a member of the Dinamo Zagreb first team, having an average of 90 league appearances while also taking home two Croatian Cups with the club. The 2002-03 season was a great one for him. Butina was a part of every one of Dinamo Zagreb’s league games and scored just 27 goals which helped the club win its first title since. On the 26th of February, 2002 Butina had been stripped of capital after breaking the silence in the media about the current problems with the club’s finances. On June 13, 2003 Butina had been transferred to Belgian First Division side Club Brugge.
Butina started his career at Dinamo Zagreb, debuting for the first team on the 23rd of May 1993 at a time when the club was called “Croatia Zagreb”. But he was unable to establish himself as a player in the club at a period the time Drazen Ladic served as the long-time club’s first choice goalkeeper. In the late 1990s the player had a few loans with lower-level Croatian teams Karlovac, Samobor and Slaven Belupo. In the later 1990s the player was a regular player in the team, and, after Ladic’s retirement in 2000, he was appointed as Dinamo’s primary goalie during the 2000-01 season.
Internationally, Butina represented Croatia at the under-20 and under-21 levels in 1994 and 1995, making a total of twelve appearances at youth levels. On 5 September 2001, he made his full international debut in a 2002 World Cup qualifier against San Marino. He went on to appear in all of Croatia’s three matches at the Euro 2004 finals, and kept his place as the national team’s first-choice goalkeeper over the following 18 months. He was also part of Croatia’s 23-man squads for the 2002 and 2006 World Cup finals, but did not feature in any of the team’s six matches during the two tournaments. In August 2006, he announced his retirement from the national team.

Butina helped the club defend the league title the next season, featuring in 25 league matches. He also made ten appearances in European competitions and four more appearances in the 2009–10 Croatian Cup. On 17 August 2010, at the start of the 2010–11 season, Butina was released from his contract with Dinamo Zagreb along with his teammate Ante Tomić. He made a total of 50 league appearances for Dinamo Zagreb following his return, also winning four domestic trophies.
