He is currently assistant coach of Maccabi Haifa of the Liga Leumit. Steinhauer was a player for his country’s Israel National Basketball team from the years 1986-2001. He was also an Israeli Cup winner in 1993, playing for Hapoel Tel Aviv and Israeli champion in 1996, playing for Maccabi Tel Aviv.
In Steinhauer’s own statements, he wasn’t looking to pursue a career in the business world after retirement due to the fact that he’s unafraid of financial risk and has enough funds from his sports career to pay for living expenses at Kiryat Tiv’on. He has three children, two daughters and two sons. In the past, Steinhauer became involved in politics and joined the Israeli leftists and running without success in an Israeli legislative elections as a left-wing party Meretz.
In the beginning of 2000, Steinauer’s worth to his teams began to diminish. He relocated to Northern Israel, taking root in Kiryat Tiv’on. After 19 seasons of playing in Israel’s most prestigious basketball competition (ranked 14th on the all-time list of the top league scorers, with 5,253 points) Steinhauer continued to play for a few years with the Tiv’on club in the Israeli 3rd and 2nd-tier leagues. He concluded his playing career at forty-two at Hapoel Emeq Yizre’el. For a short period of time, Steinhauer served as an assistant coach at Bnei Herzliya and as the head coach for Tiv’on’s youth teams. In 2016 , he was appointed assistant coach for Maccabi Haifa B.C., taking over from Opher Rakhimi, who was named head coach.

Tomer Steinhauer started his career as a member of junior teams of Maccabi Haifa B.C.. In 1984, he was a part of the Haifa young players the nation’s championship for youth as well as the state cup, and then the following year he joined the primary Haifa team. He continued playing in Haifa until 1991 (taking the time in 1998/1999 to take classes and play basketball in University of South Florida. University of South Florida). After the 1994/1995 season with Hapoel-Holon Steinhauer signed a contract for three years with the kings in Israeli basketball Maccabi Tel Aviv.
